Action Research Project Summary

I started my research project in May 2013. My job was to come up with an after school program for my school. This program was something that I always wanted to do, and I was excited that I had the opportunity to be apart of something so great. The program runs every wednesday for 3 hours, after the regular scheduled school day. As of now, I have 15 kids ranging from age 5 to 9. The program  provides homework help, art, educational enrichment and computer activities. Through doing the program I have gotten many positive responses from teachers, parents, and administration on how excited the students are about the program. I have also gotten many responses on expanding the program in order to support more students in the future. I have been looking into funding opportunities in order to do that, because as of now everything is funded by myself (art supplies and also snacks for the students are brought in order to make sure the students are enjoying their time in the program). The program will run until the end of school year, so I have lots of time to improve the program and work on getting the resources to support more students. The students behavior is improving in the classroom, because the after school program. The students talk about it the program to other students and it has also encouraged the students in the classroom to be more involved in their learning by helping them to be more excited about learning.  The job of the program is to motivate the students to be better students, and to cut down on the discipline in the classroom. I do see that the program is having a positive affect  on the students. I can not wait to see, all the great things that happen because of the program.

5301-Week 5 Reflection

I have enjoyed writing on my blog and participating in the discussion questions. One of the reasons that I enjoyed this  was because it gave me the opportunity to get input from my fellow colleagues in the class and also input from people on my campus, on my action research plan. It felt really good that people are reading your ideas and are able to give you great input to make your research plan better. This also helped me to make my action research plan to be something that I am proud of making and also something that I am proud to show my campus that I am apart of. I really don’t know how I would have made my plan to be what it is without the input of everyone who posted on my blog and replied on my discussion posts. I enjoyed being able to let other students see my plan and critique it, so that I could use what they said to make my plan better.

Thank you all so much :) Wishing you the best throughout the graduate program :)
